Some tips by our locals:

* Martinitoren > the locals call this over 500 year old tower "d'Olle Grieze", which means "the old gray". This fourth highest tower of the Netherlands can be climbed until the third floor. Entrance € 3,-. Buy your ticket and check opening hours at the tourist office.

* Het Pakhuis > you'll find this golden oldie night spot tucked away in an alley. It's always a good time and you can dance until the early hours. On the first floor you can get dinner.

* Het Zusje van André Dokter > Het Zusje takes 'meat of fish' to the next level. If you want a vegetarian meal, call ahead.

* Barrel > Groningen's first wine bar. There are at least 15 wines available by the glass but if you'd like a whole bottle, you've got 400 varieties to choose from.

* Belgian Cafe de Pintelier > this cafe has the best Belgian beers and serves tasty typical Dutch snacks.

The eierbal is very popular among the "Stadjers" and is a part of our cultural heritage. We call thema "aaierbal" which is pronounced as eye-r-ball.

You haven't truly been to Groningen if you've not tasted this local snack!

What is it?

An eierbal is a vegetarian snack which consists of a hard-boiled egg wrapped with ragout. The ball is then breaded and fried.
