Healthy Ageing

The life expectancy of the Dutch is increasing rapidly. It is estimated that half of the Dutch population will be over 65 by 2025. Although more people reach a ripe old age, they don’t always do so in good health. To the contrary: the increasing life expectancy is severely straining the Dutch health budget, burdening future generations. This is why the University of Groningen, Hanze University Groningen and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) have put a focus on Healthy Ageing. In this field the University of Groningen/UMCG cooperate closely with their regional, national and international partners.

Groningen; City of Healthy & Active Ageing

Together with the Healthy Ageing Network Northern Netherlands (HANNN), the partners of the Groningen Agreement are organizing a Healthy Ageing Campaign in 2012 called GA! Groningen (Healthy & Active Groningen – in Dutch ‘GA! (Gezond & Actief - Healthy & Active) Groningen’).
